Since the middle of the 20th Century, humanity has been dreaming of a future filled with magical robots that automate the mundane and achieve the impossible. We imagine being freed from toil and physical limitations, among so many other things. But after decades of mind boggling advances in computing and tech toys, the most functional robots to date are limited to the industrial sector. Where are all the dish washing robots, the laundry bots, the bots that prepare meals, the baymax? Where are the revolutionizing robotics?

This isn’t a rhetorical question. We know why. The problem is robotics development is too expensive, too complex, and too proprietary! We get it because we’ve lived it. As Ohmnilabs, we successfully launched Ohmni, the best telepresence robot around (check it out it’s SO COOL). In the process of developing Ohmni, we turned the outdated, expensive R&D process on its head. We did it by focusing on streamlined, iterative design and 3d-printed manufacturing. Because of this, Ohmni is 10x faster, better, and cheaper to build than other products in the field.

Now we’re ready to take the next step (read: GIANT LEAP) and offer Ohmni as the foundation to the world’s first end-to-end, collaborative, crowdfunded, open source platform for robotics.

Introducing Kambria!

Inspired by game-changers like Linux, Android, and the X-Prize, and powered by a cryptocurrency token, KAT (bc cats already rule the net. Why fight it?), the Kambria Platform will facilitate and incentivize every part of the robotics process: from R&D to manufacturing, software to hardware, sales and rental, even AI! Because one of the biggest legitimate fears about robotics is the loss of jobs, the platform is designed to spread the wealth and opportunity as far as possible — so much further than the proprietary robotics industry today — while aiming to capture a significant portion of the rapidly growing commercial robotics market for our diverse community of stakeholders. And just as important as spreading wealth and opportunity is democratizing access to the robots themselves, so everything developed on the Kambria platform will be open source, *forever*.

For reals.

Like its namesake, The Cambrian Explosion, we believe the Kambria platform will catalyze an unprecedented era of evolution and (at the risk of sounding cliche) change the world. Once we build the Kambria platform we’ll take a big step back and become one amongst many that steward and contribute to a global (and one day, interplanetary) effort to democratize robotics and build our dreams — together.

If this all sounds too dreamy, that’s because this is a grandiose introduction blog! We’ve drilled way down into the details and believe we’ve developed a model that gets us there. Check out our draft white paper — we’d love your feedback!

In the coming weeks, we’ll be sharing the ins and outs of the platform, how it works, the roadmap, crowdsale details, and who might want to get involved. In the meantime, we want to start the conversation with you, our burgeoning community, and give you a chance to help build the future. Literally!

So stay tuned, say hi (join our telegram group, discord, follow us on twitter or facebook, visit our website kambria.network, we’re everywhere!), and don’t be shy. We’ve got lots of great folks on our team that would love to hear from you.

Let’s do this!

Kambria is the first decentralized open innovation platform for Deep Tech (AI, Robotics, Blockchain, VR/AR…). Using our platform, anyone can collaborate in researching, developing and commercializing innovative ideas and get rewarded fairly for their contributions. Through partnerships with government agencies, top universities and leading companies, Kambria is dedicated to building a sustainable open innovation ecosystem to change the way we innovate and to accelerate advanced technology development and industry adoption. Together, let’s shape the future of technology where technology is open and contributes more to society.
