With the upcoming release of Kambria’s Open Innovation Platform, our native token, KAT, is going to play an integral role in our ecosystem. Our team of game theorists developed KAT tokenomics with strong demand-focused principles in mind. Our three-tiered approach to the Kambria Master Business Plan provides an overview of how we will create a strong, sustainable ecosystem that supports all interested parties both from the top down and from the bottom up, thereby reaping the full potential of the Kambria platform. You can read Kambria’s Master Business Plan and how we will build a strong token economy here. Today, we will take a closer look at KAT and how we will achieve these foundational metrics.

Kambria’s core offering, the Open Innovation Platform, has been built to accelerate the development of frontier technologies such as robotics, AI, and other disruptive tech. To ensure the success of the platform, we must provide not only attractive incentives, but a strong token economy. KAT tokens are used to facilitate the transfer of value for every aspect of the platform. By requiring KAT as payment for all products and services on the platform, we will increase KAT utility and reduce token velocity. The following is an overview of exactly how KAT tokens will be used to this end.

Services that will require KAT:

  • Membership to the platform
  • Additive manufacturing (3D printing)
  • Prototyping services
  • Manufacturing Alliance
  • Acquiring developers
  • Hackathon participation
  • Access to KDNA codebase
  • Access to resource library
  • Robotics “Appstore”
  • Use of licenses
  • Backing your favorite projects
  • Voting for your favorite hackathon teams
  • Bounty creation
  • Bounty participation
  • More features coming!

Membership Fees, Products, and Services

First and foremost, the entry fee required for users to be able to begin developing or hosting bounties on Kambria’s platform will be required to pay a membership fee in KAT exclusively. While memberships provide a healthy portion of important benefits, based on their specific needs, there will be additional services and products that users require to achieve their goals. Whether it be assistance with prototyping, 3D printing, or utilizing our manufacturing alliance, all desired products and services will be offered in exchange for KAT tokens exclusively. This means that in order to utilize the platform for its intended purpose, users will be incentivized to retain KAT in their wallets so that they can acquire these benefits at a moment’s notice. The Open Innovation Platform will also offer a variety of pre-developed physical robotic products for sale, purchasable only by KAT.

Licensing Fees

One of the greatest benefits for building on Kambria’s Open Innovation Platform is the ability to collaborate and share great innovations. If developers have useful and unique technology, they can import their Github into Kambria’s codebase, it will then be open for use on the Open Innovation Platform; however, licensing fees will apply. In addition to fees being paid exclusively in KAT, the developer(s) who created the technology will receive a portion of the fees for their contributions to Kambria’s codebase.

Hackathons & Bounty Challenges

With leaders such as Linux gaining additional market share year-over-year, we can see that open-source collaboration has become increasingly popular over the years. It is truly a testament that we can build better, together. With over 15 million lines of code from thousands of developers, Linux is an open-source success story. This is the basis for Kambria’s Bounty Platform. With the right incentives, we can tap into this same collaborative model to allow companies who wish to build a product to enlist the help of a community of talented developers to collaborate and build the desired innovations. We require that all bounties fulfilled on Kambria’s Platform be paid out in KAT (K-Prize). Developers who wish to participate in bounties will receive KAT as payment for their contributions to each bounty. You can learn more about Kambria’s Bounty Program in our blog.

Kambria will also use hackathons to connect huge pools of raw talent, including world-class engineers and scientists, with large corporations. Our hackathons will help develop technology that caters to the needs of these corporations. Moreover, the technology will be developed and incubated to scale globally, thereby creating a worldwide impact. In addition to increasing adoption, hackathons will also require participants to utilize KAT to access key platform features. By also using KAT for prize payouts, hackathons will significantly increase adoption for both the platform and the use of KAT.

Karma & Revenue Sharing

In addition to KAT, we have introduced the Karma concept. Karma is a non-tradeable ledger entry awarded to contributors on the Kambria Platform. We intend to use Karma as a way to track contributions made on Kambria so that we can begin to share profit revenue made by Kambria International fairly. Therefore, as their work and contributions increase, so does their earning potential. The idea is to create a reputation system that also benefits contributors by creating incentives across multiple avenues.

Judging, Voting, and Participation

In order for the bounty program to be successful, there must be a system to protect both bounty creators and the developers who participate in these bounties. Kambria’s decentralized economy will utilize both smart contracts and a number of failsafe mechanisms to protect both the integrity and quality of the products that are built. While this protects the interests of the developers,  how can we ensure that this is done properly and safely? By creating pools of judges with no vested interest in bounty creators or the developers, we protect the individual interests of participants. These judges will be required to stake KAT in order to even participate in the bounty process. If the bounty is successful, then they will receive their KAT back, and will be awarded with Karma as a result of their contributions. We are cultivating an objective community whose primary focus is preserving their stake in the bounty, as well as their professional reputation. For more details on the role of Judges in our platform, please read our Innovation Judge Protocol paper.

Rewards

We are aware that in order to attract the greatest number of participants, that we have to make some bold moves to attract new innovators, companies, and enthusiasts to build on Kambria. That is why we’ve created an economy built around KAT, using incentives to build a strong developer community to innovate on Kambria’s Open Innovation Platform. We will create a variety of events across the globe with incentives payable in KAT. This includes both hackathons, bounty challenges, and all technologies built on the Kambria Platform. Not only does this introduce our native token to the largest audience, but familiarizes these groups of people who may have had no previous experience with digital tokens. This opens the door for a mass influx of new and hungry innovators with the goal of building the next killer apps. All hackathons, contests, and rewards will include payment in KAT.

We hope this is educational for those users who had questions on how and why we chose to utilize a blockchain token to power our economy. The token is central to the Kambria Platform, which would not truly be possible without KAT. We are always working towards and brainstorming additional ways in which we can utilize KAT tokens to drive demand and increase our user-base. We will update the community in the coming months with additional details and updates concerning the Open Innovation Platform and our KAT token.
