Image Tagging

Once you click “Start,” you will load the image tagging interface. Here is where you will complete the work. The interface has a total of 2,000 images of different kinds of doorknobs. Begin with the first image by drawing a box around the doorknob by clicking your mouse and dragging it over the area where the doorknob is displayed. After you release the mouse button, a drop-down menu will appear. You will select the appropriate style of doorknob from this list.

There are three different types of door knobs to identify. If you come across a door knob that you believe does not fall into one of these three categories, please label it as “unknown.” This should be a rare occurrence, if you encounter it at all.

After you complete one image, you will click the next image and continue on by selecting the next image from the list on the left-hand side of the interface.

Important Information

We understand that some of the participants will not complete all of the images at once. To ensure that you would have the freedom to label images during times that are convenient for you, we have provided the ability to save your work so that you can resume it at a later time. Your work is not automatically saved, so if you are going to be leaving the computer and/or closing the browser tab, please ensure that you double-check that your work is saved. Unsaved work is not recoverable.

Additionally, we have provided a few extra tools to aid you on your bounty. Pictured below are a few extra tools at your disposal:

  • You can zoom and scroll on any of the images that have dimensions preventing you from labeling the image. If the displayed image is too large for you to label, you can scroll to the left and right in order to reach the drop-down menu to identify the doorknob.
  • If you accidentally mis-label an image, you can click the “X” to remove the incorrect tag and start over.
  • The “Submit” button will not be available until all of the images in the bounty are complete. If you cannot find the images that have not been labeled, you can select “Show files missing annotation” from the drop-down menu above the image list, and it will filter and display only the images you have not tagged yet. This will allow you to quickly and easily find out which image(s) needs to be completed.
