On Sunday, September 8th, 2019, Mr. Nguyen Chi Dung, Vietnam's Minister of Planning and Investment, and his top officials visited Kambria’s Silicon Valley office. The visit is part of an initiative to build a National Innovation Center (NIC) for Vietnam. NIC headquarters will be in Hoa Lac, near Ha Noi, Vietnam and its multiple branches will be located around the world, including one in Silicon Valley, USA.

NIC officials toured Kambria’s Silicon Valley office, which is being considered as a possible global branch that would support the Ministry’s vision. Mr. Nguyen Chi Dung holds Kambria in high regard due to our recent partnership with his office in organizing the Vietnam AI Grand Challenge, which was pivotal in launching Vietnam’s national artificial intelligence (AI) movement.

The vision of NIC is to be a major instrument for implementing Industry 4.0, a strategy to fundamentally transform Vietnam’s socio-economic future. “The National Innovation Center will be the nucleus for promoting innovation and technology to strengthen economic development. The Center will collaborate with science institutions, universities, corporate, investors and other key players in the innovation ecosystem to deploy ideas into practice,” states Mr. Nguyen. NIC’s five focus areas are:

  • Smart factory -- hardware and software
  • Digital content industry -- games, advertising, movies, music
  • Network security -- security solutions, civil networks – the city’s factories and administrative agencies
  • Smart city
  • Environmental technology

To promote these focus areas, NIC will organize events and training activities for individuals and organizations. They will also counsel and support individual startups and other businesses, as well as provide technology-related policy recommendations based on their own research.

The NIC network will include technology specialists, experts and scientists working in Vietnam and overseas to support NIC’s commitment to promoting start-ups and innovative enterprises. In return, members will receive access to high-quality projects and talent incubated through NIC, as well as new avenues to bring their own ideas to market.
