DAO Experimentation Program – Documentation

KAT Token in the Program

Estimated reading: 3 minutes 11 views

Kambria Token (KAT) is used in the DAO Experimentation Program as a non-speculative tool for contribution recognition, identity, and value acknowledgment. It is not used for trading, staking, or speculation, but to reward meaningful actions, build a culture of peer trust, and reflect each participant’s journey.

This page explains how KAT is earned, tracked, and used during the program.

Why We Use KAT

  • To recognize effort fairly across roles and regions
  • To incentivize action without competition or speculation
  • To track participation transparently
  • To prototype ethical token use for future Kambria DAOs
  • To deepen identity and belonging within and across DAOs

KAT is not used for trading or governance power — it’s a symbol of contribution and presence.

What KAT Is Used For

  1. Contribution Recognition: Members earn KAT for specific actions such as submitting proposals, completing tasks, sharing reflections, or supporting others.
  2. Progress Tracking: The number of KAT earned over time helps participants see their growth, involvement, and role within the DAO.
  3. Community Identity: KAT can be used to unlock roles or earn non-transferable badges (e.g. Contributor, Builder, Storyteller, Steward).
  4. Peer Appreciation (Optional): Some DAOs may allocate a small KAT pool for peer-to-peer appreciation, where members can recognize each other directly.
  5. Story Voting and Showcases: In Reflection DAO, KAT may be used to signal support or resonance for submitted stories during community voting rounds.

What KAT Is Not Used For

  • KAT is not a currency for buying/selling services
  • It is not used for staking, yield farming, or speculation
  • It is not the basis of DAO governance power (1 person = 1 vote remains default)

What Actions Earn KAT

Each DAO uses a contribution-based reward system. KAT is distributed for doing real work, such as executing proposals, writing reflections, supporting peers, or attending calls.

Examples of Earnable Actions

Action Suggested KAT
Submit accepted proposal 15 KAT
Complete and report action 10 KAT
Submit documentation (photos, logs) 5 KAT
Share personal reflection 10 KAT
Edit/translate another member’s story 5 KAT
Support a teammate’s work 4–8 KAT
Host a reflection event or story circle 8–12 KAT
Story selected for showcase Bonus 5–10 KAT

Exact values may vary by DAO, agreed via discussion or vote.

Contribution Tracking

All contributions are recorded transparently in Google Sheets.

Tracked fields may include:

  • Participant name
  • DAO project
  • Action type
  • Description of action
  • Date completed
  • KAT earned
  • Total KAT accumulated

DAO facilitators may help with verification, but self-reporting and peer validation are key to keeping it light and fair.

Role-Based Progression

KAT may be used to unlock symbolic roles that reflect contribution level, not seniority or authority.

Total KAT Role
30+ Active Contributor
50+ Builder
75+ Steward or Peer Mentor

These roles can be used to identify trusted members, and may come with extra privileges or invitations — such as hosting a DAO meeting, reviewing proposals, or supporting new members.

KAT Badges & Identity System (Optional)

Some DAOs may choose to issue non-transferable role badges or credentials using KAT thresholds. These can be:

  • Visual badges in DAO profile
  • On-chain soulbound NFTs
  • Narrative badges (e.g., “Compassionate Storyteller,” “Local Organizer”)

Badges are used to reflect journey and values — not for exclusivity or ranking.

Post-Program KAT Use

KAT earned in this program may be used in the future to:

  • Demonstrate experience and participation in public DAOs
  • Unlock access to DAO-building resources or community benefits
  • Transition into long-term roles in Kambria's broader DAO ecosystem

These applications are evolving and will be shaped by community feedback.
