KAT Recognition Framework – Cohort I

Estimated reading: 3 minutes 513 views

1. Purpose

The KAT Recognition Framework ensures that contributions by DAO members are recognized transparently and fairly across all DAOs, while maintaining alignment with Kambria’s decentralized governance principles.

2. Core Principles (Cross-DAO Alignment)

All DAOs share these recognition principles:

  • Reward impact and accountability, not hours.
  • Use transparent group consensus through DAO voting.
  • Ensure fair balance across DAOs with comparable funding and effort levels.
  • Allow DAO self-governance within shared ethical and operational boundaries.
  • Avoid inflation or token farming; one-time bonuses can be proposed if justified.

3. Recognition Approach for DEP Cohort I

Because Cohort I focused on experimentation, the KAT recognition system applies a summary-phase model, rather than predefined monthly tracking.

  • Instead of assigning KAT values to predefined action types, each DAO group will receive a KAT allocation at the end of the program based on their deliverables and completion of goals.
  • This ensures fairness across DAOs and reflects verified outcomes (e.g., trees planted, meals delivered, sessions conducted, reflections completed).

4. Group Proposal for KAT Distribution

Each DAO group will submit a KAT Recognition Proposal describing how to distribute their KAT allocation among members.

Proposal Structure:

a. Group Information

  • DAO name and group
  • Group members and roles
  • KAT allocation received

b. Reward Distribution Table

Member BDocumentationMediumProduced DAO report15
Member CLocal CoordinationHighManaged on-ground logistics20
Member DSupportMediumAssisted in communication10

c. Rationale

  • How the proposed KAT distribution reflects engagement, responsibility, and impact.
  • Alignment with cross-DAO principles.

d. Voting

  • The group submits the proposal via XDAO or Discord voting.
  • The proposal passes when quorum (34%) is reached.
  • Kambria Core Team will record and confirm the result.

4. What Happens After Approval

KAT rewards are processed and recognized within the Kambria DAOs ecosystem (no retroactive adjustment will be made afterwards).

DAO Facilitators consolidate all approved group proposals into the DAO Summary Recognition Record.

5. Long-Term Evolution of the Framework

As the DAO Experimentation Program (DEP) evolves, the KAT Recognition Framework will continue to mature toward more structured tracking and automation.

Option 1 - Predefined Action Types & Monthly Tracking (Original Framework)

Summary: KAT rewards are assigned to specific action types (e.g., proposal drafting, facilitation, documentation) with predefined values. DAO members earn tokens monthly based on activity records.

Pros:

  • Predictable and measurable - members know exactly how activities translate to rewards.
  • Encourages consistent participation throughout the program.
  • Easier to automate via DAO tools (e.g., XDAO, Discord bot).

Cons:

  • High operational overhead - requires regular tracking and validation.
  • Difficult for early-stage DAOs where roles evolve dynamically.
  • May feel transactional instead of collective.

Best for: Mature DAOs with stable roles and continuous participation.

Option 2 - Summary-Phase, Deliverable-Based Recognition (Current Framework)

Summary: Each DAO group receives KAT allocation at the end of the program based on deliverables. The group proposes and votes on internal distribution.

Pros:

  • Flexible and adaptable to different DAO contexts.
  • Promotes group reflection and decentralized consensus.
  • Simplifies management while maintaining fairness.

Cons:

  • Less real-time motivation; rewards come post-completion.
  • Relies on internal fairness and transparency within groups.
  • Harder to quantify ongoing mid-phase contributions.

Best for: Early, experimental, or project-based cohorts.

6. Recommendation

Adopt the deliverable-based recognition (Option 2) for Cohorts I - II, and evolve toward monthly action-based recognition (Option 1) as DAO maturity increases.

This transition ensures flexibility during early experimentation while setting the foundation for structured, scalable KAT recognition in the long term.
