Member Removal Policy: Inactivity or Misconduct

Estimated reading: 3 minutes 308 views

This policy outlines how DAO members may be removed due to sustained inactivity or cheating/misconduct, in order to uphold fairness, trust, and active participation in DAO operations.

Grounds for Removal

Inactivity

A member may be removed if they engage in any of the following, with evidence recorded by DAO facilitators or members:

  • Fail to vote in at least half of the proposals in a voting cycle.
  • Repeatedly disengage from DAO processes in a way that disrupts progress (e.g., failing to join discussions, meetings or tasks).

In these cases, DAO facilitators or members should provide documented proof (screenshots, reports, blockchain records). The removal will be subject to a termination vote with quorum of 34%.

Cheating or Misconduct

A member may be removed if they engage in any of the following, with evidence recorded by DAO facilitators or members:

  • False information: Submitting false or misleading details in the Application Form, Proposals, or Reports (e.g., fabricated identity, inflated results).
  • Unjustified claims: Attempting to claim KAT or funds for tasks that were not completed, or for work primarily done by someone else without acknowledgment.
  • Misrepresentation: Repeatedly misrepresenting their participation or contribution (e.g., reporting attendance without actually attending, exaggerating deliverables).
  • Manipulation of processes: Misusing DAO tools, voting, or governance mechanisms in a way intended to distort outcomes (e.g., duplicate accounts, coordinated vote-rigging).

In these cases, DAO facilitators or members should provide documented proof (screenshots, reports, blockchain records). The removal will be subject to a termination vote with quorum of 34%.

Removal Process

  • Any allegation of inactivity or misconduct must first be shared in the DAO’s Discord channel, with supporting evidence. A discussion period of at least 3 days will be provided for DAO members (including the member concerned) to review and respond.
  • After the discussion, the DAO Facilitator will create a Remove Member voting via XDAO which requires a minimum quorum of 34% of members (3-day voting period), and add it to the Voting tracking sheet.
  • The decision recorded on XDAO will be final and binding.
  • Post-Removal Actions
    • The member is removed from the DAO coordination list.
    • Their name is removed from KAT tracking and relevant documentation.
    • No further payments or recognitions are processed.

Tracking Sheet: Inactivity & Misconduct

To ensure transparency and consistency, all potential member removals due to inactivity or misconduct will be recorded in a shared Tracking Sheet. The sheet will include the following columns:

  • Member Name – Full name of the DAO member.
  • GT Wallet Address – The member’s wallet address used for governance tokens (GT).
  • Inactive/Misconduct – Type of issue flagged (Inactive or Misconduct).
  • Discussion

    • Discord thread link – Link to the discussion thread where concerns were raised.
    • Supporting evidence link – Reference materials (screenshots, reports, proposal records, etc.).
    • Create date – Date the discussion was opened.
    • Discussion deadline – Date by which members should provide inputs before proceeding to a vote.
  • Voting

    • Voting link – Link to the official vote (via XDAO).
    • Create date – Date the removal vote is created.
    • Voting deadline – Date by which voting must conclude.
  • Removal Status – Current stage of the case (e.g., Discussing, Voting, Removed, Retained).
  • Notes – Additional context, clarifications, or follow-ups.

This process ensures:

  • All concerns are first discussed transparently in Discord before escalating to a removal vote.
  • Supporting evidence is clearly documented and accessible to DAO members.
  • Status and timelines are tracked, preventing confusion or lack of accountability.
