DAO Operating Playbook

Welcome to the DAO Operating Playbook

This playbook is your guide to how we work together inside each DAO — simple, flexible, and action-focused. Each DAO organises its work as owned lanes (pairs owning streams of work); this page covers how decisions are made, how we collaborate, and the tools we use. (See the Owned Lanes Model and Member Roles & Contribution pages for how the work itself is organised.)

Governance Flow

Most day-to-day lane work happens without a vote — pairs run their lanes and get on with it. Proposals are for the decisions that belong to the whole DAO: the Master Plan, lane plans, spending, and membership or governance changes.

How a proposal becomes action:

IDEA → PROPOSAL → VOTING → EXECUTION → REPORTING → REFLECTION

  1. Draft a proposal. Use the Master Plan or Lane Proposal template. Include the purpose, any requested budget, and the expected outcomes.
  2. Submit. Through your DAO's XDAO space (Send Token / proposal voting).
  3. Voting. Members review and vote; the proposal must meet the DAO's quorum and pass by the required majority (see DAO Concept and Basic Terms).
  4. Execution. If approved, the DAO carries out the action. If funding is involved, the payout runs through the DAO's treasury on XDAO, via the Kambria DAOs Framework.
  5. Reporting. Record the work and its evidence in the DAO Workbook. Paid tasks are verified there before payment, and contributions are recognised with KAT.

And at the end of the cohort: Reflection — each member shares a short reflection on what they learned.

Reporting Expectations

  • Proposals → your DAO's XDAO space
  • Work, tasks, budget, and reports → the DAO Workbook
  • Impact → tracked against the DAO's goals on the three impact axes (reach, depth, self-propagation)

Your DAO Lead and DAO Facilitators will guide you, but every member is encouraged to document and celebrate the DAO's progress.

DAO Code of Collaboration

As DAO members, we uphold these simple principles:

  • Voice every voice. Every perspective matters. We listen with curiosity, not judgment.
  • Decide together, act together. We honor the will of the community and move in trust once votes are cast.
  • Transparency over assumption. We document and share openly to prevent misunderstandings.
  • Conflict is opportunity. Disagreements are seeds for deeper growth, not obstacles.
  • Celebrate contributions, big or small. Every action moves us forward — and deserves recognition.
  • Growth is the goal. Beyond funding, beyond voting, we are here to grow: skills, wisdom, and connection.

Together, we are not just executing tasks — we are building a new way to create, govern, and belong.

Conflict Handling Framework

Disagreements are natural in any collaboration. Our light DAO approach:

Step Action
1. Acknowledge Respectfully recognize the disagreement.
2. Dialogue Move the discussion to a designated Discord thread or call.
3. Mediate A DAO Facilitator can help moderate neutrally if needed.
4. Propose solutions Seek a proposal both sides can support.
5. Vote if needed If no agreement is reached, submit proposals and let DAO members vote fairly.

Principle: curiosity over assumption, collaboration over competition, growth over blame.

Tools We Use

Tool Purpose
XDAO Proposals, voting, treasury management
MetaMask Your wallet — receive task payments (USDT) and connect to XDAO
Discord Communication, coordination, quick discussion
Google Drive Shared files, Launch Kits, and templates
DAO Workbook (Google Sheets) Trackers — contributions, pay-per-task, budget, and reports

See the Tools & Onboarding page for how to set these up.

Final Note

You are the DAO. This is your canvas for decentralized collaboration, creativity, and impact.

Move boldly. Vote thoughtfully. Reflect honestly. Build beautifully.
