Conversion Guideline

Estimated reading: 2 minutes 59 views

This guideline explains how DAO members handle the USDT they receive and, when necessary, convert it into local currency. It is the companion to the "cryptocurrency is not banned where you are" condition on the Join the Program page — you take part on the basis that you can hold and, if you wish, convert USDT lawfully where you live.

1. General principle

  • Contributors are paid in USDT for their work, and DAO funds are held and moved in USDT.
  • Each member manages their own conversion of USDT into local currency, in line with local regulations and personal preference.
  • Kambria does not provide financial services or perform conversions on behalf of members.

2. Compliance with local laws

  • Each member must ensure that any holding, conversion, or use of USDT complies with the laws and regulations of their own country.
  • Regulations vary widely — some countries allow crypto-to-fiat exchange through licensed exchanges; others restrict or prohibit stablecoins or unlicensed exchanges.
  • Always check your local rules before proceeding.

3. Safe practice guidelines

When converting USDT into local currency:

✅ Prefer exchanges or channels that are licensed or authorized in your own jurisdiction. A globally known exchange is not automatically permitted where you live — several have withdrawn from or been restricted in specific markets.

✅ Enable two-factor authentication (2FA) on all exchange accounts.

✅ Avoid informal peer-to-peer (P2P) conversion. Beyond counterparty risk, it is restricted or penalized in some countries — use it only where it is clearly permitted and you fully trust the counterparty.

✅ Start with a small test transaction before handling larger amounts.

❌ Never share your private keys or Secret Recovery Phrase with anyone.

❌ Avoid suspicious services that promise unusually low fees or high returns.

4. Community knowledge sharing

  • Members are encouraged to share their experience with conversion in their local context — trusted exchanges, best practices, things to watch for.
  • DAO Facilitators can help collect and share this knowledge, but decisions always remain with the individual member.

5. Kambria’s role

  • Kambria provides this guideline for educational purposes only.
  • Kambria does not guarantee the safety or legality of any specific conversion method.
  • Members remain accountable for ensuring their actions and conversion methods comply with local laws and safe practices.
